Oftentimes, in the occurrence of a network outage or severe
performance degradation due to a virus-infected or malfunctioning
workstation, our support staff knows the IP address of the machine
that is causing the problem, but do not know where that machine is
located inside the building. The information collected
through SIRS will be used primarily to match IP addresses and MAC
addresses to particular computers and users, thereby allowing us
to quickly locate problem machines and restore full network
functionality.
