All residents are required to go through the Student Internet Registration System (SIRS) before their computer will be able to connect to the GrandMarc's Internet connection.

The SIRS registration process is very simple, and consists of the following steps:

  1. When a user attempts to connect to the Internet, they will be forwarded to a very simple registration page where they must read and agree to the GrandMarc Terms of Use policy, and then fill in their name, email address, room number, and telephone number. The input portion of this page is shown below.

  1. Once this page is completed they will be forwarded to the page that they originally tried to access.

Oftentimes, in the occurrence of a network outage or severe performance degradation due to a virus-infected or malfunctioning workstation, our support staff knows the IP address of the machine that is causing the problem, but do not know where that machine is located inside the building.  The information collected through SIRS will be used primarily to match IP addresses and MAC addresses to particular computers and users, thereby allowing us to quickly locate problem machines and restore full network functionality.
